Meredith Peters

Meredith Peters appears two times in Season One as an abusive mother. She appears a third time in Season One tied up. In Season Two, she tried to free herself by using a chainsaw to cut the chains off, losing her hand as a result. She walked around with a coat covering her arm until getting a hook like appendage. Her personality is very calm, and knows exactly what to say to get herself out of trouble which she succeeds most of the time. Ms. Peters is a former teacher that lost her job due to negligence. She is hired to work at Boston Public during a teacher shortage at the insistence of a department head. While demoted to teacher assistant, she teaches the class independently. The Vice Principal insists that she be reinstated to full time teacher. After talking with her a few times, they start dating, but her son initially tries to kill him. As they almost marry, she regrets very much for abusing her son, but tries to excuse it by saying it was her duty. At school, she is alienated even more with her new name being The Hook Lady. They even steal her appendage and throw it at a cardboard cut out of The Vice Principal. After that, she buys a more anatomically correct appendage. The Vice Principal also buys for her a third appendage, the most sophisticated one available, letting her keep it even after they argue. Her time at Boston Public is not good, encountering continuing backlash from students. When she slaps Marcie Kendall, she is terminated again. They broke up not long after. Ronnie planned in advance a party, but could not update the guest list. Both The Vice Principal and Meredith showed up and were able to get closure. Kathy Baker exited the show as Meredith's character did not develop past being The Hook Lady. While being featured in Season Two's opening title credits, she does not appear in every episode. Her teaching at Boston Public is a miserable failure. The students did not like her; even the other staff were afraid that she was and would continue to be a malicious parent and teacher. They did not approve of her being hired to begin with for justifiable concerns. The final scene of Meredith is when she entered Ronnie's elevator. She instructed The Vice Principal to please take a very long, good look at her, the only woman that loves him. She pauses face forward as the elevator doors close.
