Principal Seymour Kaufman

Principal Seymour Kaufman is in charge of Walt Whitman High School, a fictionalized version of the Los Angeles school district. In the 4th season, they celebrated his 15th year at Walt Whitman. However, it is unclear if each season is supposed to be a new year, or if time passes slowly. The word semester is used very often could mean that. As principal, he is depicted as the host of the school, mostly to new employees, students, parents, politicians, school board members, and police officers. Most of the time we see him in the office during various conferences, eating lunch, or just walking together with the three starring characters. Kaufman is widowed, has one son, largely estranged, a brother with unknown marital status, and a nephew from that brother. Kaufman appreciates the devoted school employees, and almost always is quick to defend them. Being open minded, he also endorses the very large amount of extra curricular activities and after school programs.
