A single mother from Sutherland Shire, she was inspired by the election of Gough Whitlam to aspire to bigger things. She joined her union, her local Catholic church and her local ALP branch and worked her butt off.
Never considered a ‘bright-spark' or ‘promising protégé', Bailey was neither mentored nor fast-tracked. She has become formidable, battle by battle, favour by favour, vote by vote. Bailey knows where all the bodies are buried – one or two she even put in the ground herself.
