Samantha is Martin's refined and sophisticated mother. Behind her immaculate facade however, Mrs Taylor is somewhat bored and frustrated with her socially constrained life and unappreciative husband. She compensates by channelling all her energies into her son's success. Samantha believes in Martin's talent and is often frustrated by what she perceives to be his lack of drive and hunger for success. At first, she's surprised at Taylor's friendship with the working class Danny and recognises that Danny is serious competition for her son. However, her good breeding and manners insist that she welcome Danny into their world and she soon believes that Danny's unstoppable ambition could be a good influence on Martin.
