A brilliant scientist, Alec Holland created a bio-restorative formula that could give humanity immortal. He and his wife Linda traveled to Houma to work on it in a swampside personal laboratory. Alec refused to sell the formula to Anton Arcane, and Arcane sent men to steal it. When Linda and Alec walked in on them, a fight broke out. Alec was doused with the formula, set on fire, and fell into the swamp. There he was transformed into… Swamp Thing.
