Colonel Charles Tate

Charles' brother Arthur was shot dead by Phillip Hampton, a Southerner who joined the Union cause, when Arthur threatened to shoot Philip's wife. Tate became the commandant of the military prison in New Orleans, and arranged to have Phillip brought to trial and then executed.

When President Johnson issued a pardon, Charles hired members of the Live Oaks Gang to pose as soldiers and intercept the messenger with the pardon. Charles then had John Colton abducted to prevent him from authenticating the pardon, tore it up, and prepares to execute Phillip. Yancy rescued his friend, rescued John, and tricked Charles into making a direct attempt on Phillip's life. Pahoo stopped Charles, who was arrested and turned over to the President for trial and execution.
