Harper is a librarian in the small town of McCook, Nebraska. After her boyfriend Vance leaves McCook after college, Harper has a string of bad luck as the guys that she dates disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Jack and Dean eventually come to McCook when a local man, Winston dies after setting up a dinner with Harper. Jack and Harper apparently fall in love, but Vance shows up as a zombie and tries to kill Jack. Harper and Jack take refuge in Harper's library, and while Vance stalks Jack, Harper explains over the PA that she comes from a long line of necromancers and she brought back Vance after killing him to keep him from leaving her. Vance killed all of her prospective boyfriends as part of a role-playing game that they indulged in. Jack and Dean manage to subdue Vance, but Harper escapes while they're distracted.
Harper flees McCook and writes a letter to Jack, saying that she loves him and that he's the first man to get her to leave McCook. She promises that once she kills him for destroying Vance and brings him back, they'll be together always.
