Mister Nigel Emil Charles Ratburn is Arthur's crazy home room teacher during his third grade. It is hinted that he will also teach a fourth grade class. He has a sister that teaches in the style of any other third grade teacher. These teachers make learning fun. Nigel makes learning stressful. Arthur has commented that Mister Ratburn assigned 207,000 math equations. Arthur's parents provided a home for him during the winter. During this time, he turned out to be a completely different person. He loves puppet shows, music bands, desserts, "Dark Bunny", "Spooky Roo", and helping people in need. He was able to save Clarissa, D.W.'s antique doll. Despite Arthur being fed up with Mister Ratburn, D.W. looks forward to being in his class.
