Oka Kubatko runs errands for his wife, and at the train station, his mother-in-law, Maria Andreevna, who came to visit, steals a suitcase, along with all the money and documents. Kubatko rushes to find the thief... Meanwhile, Andrei Voroshin, a drunkard, is dying in Sochi, and his friends unanimously claim that the only valuable thing in the house was an American double-barreled shotgun he illegally bought. Grigorieva focuses on finding Voroshin's connections and thus comes across the deceased's only relative, a second cousin and her grandson Sasha Tregubov. Egodin, with whom neither Grigorieva nor Likhach want to communicate, develops his own version and goes on the trail of the suspicious owner of the travel agency, who came to the murdered man the day before...
