Attacked by My Patient

Paramedic Deena Evans had been called to a concern-for-welfare check when Martyn Smith ambushed her and a colleague with two 18-inch knives, stabbing her through the chest. She survived the attack, which narrowly missed her heart, and now advocates to raise awareness about attacks in the workplace. She was awarded the Emergency Services Award for her bravery at the Pride of Birmingham Awards 2023.
