On August 17, 2024, 19-year-old Alexey Kuznetsov and his girlfriend Elizaveta Cherkasova came with Lyosha's parents to Mount Sinyukha to make an ascent to the consecrated cross at the top. The family planned to start the next morning. In the evening Alexey and Liza decided to go up alone. But they never made it back down that evening.
