This immersive, gripping and timely two-part documentary tells the inside story of one of the targets of the Bulgarian spy ring that was recently convicted in London, and the network of journalists and Russian dissidents pursued by Kremlin assassins as they attempt to fight back. Filmed over three years, and told in real time, the story of Christo Grozev - a journalist famous for exposing Putin's murder machinery - unfolds, as Grozev discovers that he is under threat himself and is forced to go on the run. As the hunter becomes the hunted, Grozev must investigate who is behind the plot to assassinate him. Alongside him is a defector from deep inside Russia's poison programme, as he and his family attempt to reach safety in Europe. There is also Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian activist twice poisoned by Putin. Kara-Murza is standing trial for treason in Russia, and the film has unique access to his wife Evgenia as she joins forces with Grozev and international governments in a secret bid to get him freed.
