Vera Minaeva is being hospitalized in a clinic with a threat of miscarriage. Tests show a drug in her blood indicating an attempted poisoning. Kaverin begins his own investigation, the circle of suspects narrows down to family members... Zharova, having learned from Dobrovolsky about Sorokin's criminal past and his medical mistakes, uses this information for blackmail. She forces him to write a good report and leave town. Kaverin learns from Zharova that she faked Marina's DNA test results. Bragin threatens Zharova and demands that she kill Odintsovo during the operation.
