Jimmy Cliff

James Chambers, professionally known as Jimmy Cliff, was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and soul musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and actor. He was instrumental in introducing reggae to an international audience, mainly through his performance in the landmark film The Harder They Come (1972). At his death, he was the only living reggae musician to hold the Order of Merit, the highest honour that the Jamaican government grants for achievements in the arts and sciences. He had seven Grammy Award nominations, winning twice. He was born in Somerton, Saint James, Jamaica.
