John Mayall

Born in Cheshire, England, John Mayall learned to play piano, guitar and harmonica as a child. After his army service in Korea he attended the Regional College of Art in Manchester where he formed his first band, the Powerhouse Four. In 1963 he moved to London and formed The Bluesbreakers, playing regularly at the Flamingo Club in Soho. It was in 1978 that he first appeared on the big screen in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. He was awarded the O.B.E.(Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2005 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to music.

John Mayall continued to be an active musician until his death at the age of 90.
