Regina "Gina" McCarthy was born in Boston and raised in Canton, Massachusetts. She received a BA in Social Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts Boston and a Master of Science in Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy from Tufts University. McCarthy is aformer administrator for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
