Lived in Seattle from age 8 until 13. Studied law at Keio University, and spent some time at Brown University in the US during that time. Joined the derivatives marketing team at a foreign bank upon graduation. Entered the news industry in 1998. Was the main anchor for several programs on NHK World such as Newsline and Asia Biz Forecast.
