James Paxton is the son of late actor, Bill Paxton (died in 2017) and Louise Paxton. He went to college to study journalism but left in order to pursue a career in the film industry, initially working in the props department on Dan Gilroy's film Nightcrawler in 2013. In 2016, he co-starred in the USA Network drama series Eyewitness as Lukas Waldenbeck. In 2020, he played a younger version of his father's character John Garrett in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In 2024 he had a cameo in the film Twisters in honor of his father who appeared in the first film, Twister (1996). James is set to star in the long awaited film, Last Train to Fortune (post production).
