Peter Ingemann Rasmussen was born on February 1, 1973, in Ry. Ingemann is the son of Preben Rasmussen and Anne. His father "made a lot of money" in the early 1970s and bought the large Sjølund farm outside Ry. It was completely renovated in 1973, with what was then described as the country's largest private swimming pool. His parents divorced in June 1983, which subsequently led to a court case. It ended with Ingemann's sister living with their mother, while Ingemann alternated between living with his father and mother. In October 1988, his father drove a car in front of a train traveling from Silkeborg to Aarhus, but no one was injured.

Ingemann's family history was recounted in the 2010 autobiography Ingemanns land – Et familiedrama (Ingemann's Land – A Family Drama).

Peter is married to Trine, with whom he has two daughters, Marie and Caroline.
