David Macniven was born in Dunfermline, Scotland and raised in Kingston and Peterborough, Ontario. He has resided in Toronto since 1995 and makes his home in East York with his daughter and son. David holds an Honours BA in History from Huron College at the University of Western Ontario, and a Theatre Arts Diploma from Studio 58, the professional theatre arts training program of Langara College, Vancouver.
David is deeply involved with volunteer service-work in the arts. An elected member of ACTRA's governing council since 2000, he is currently Vice President of Finance. He is a director of the board of the recently opened Creative Arts Saving and Credit Union that serves the local creative arts community. Since 2008 he has been President of the Board of Equity Showcase Theatre, shepherding the revered company's relaunch and celebration of its 50th Anniversary.
