Brian has been Head Gardener at Scone Palace since 2012. His gardening interest began at age 9, helping the greenkeeper at the bowling club where his mother worked. After school, he was an apprentice at Craigtoun Country Park, then worked at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, St Andrews Botanic Garden, and Backhouse Rossie Estate.
He became connected with Beechgrove after the programme visited Scone Palace for its Chilli Festival. Carole Baxter challenged him to a chilli-eating contest, which led to him becoming a regular presenter.
He also writes weekly gardening columns for The Courier and Press & Journal, works with Brightwater Holidays, and is a patron of the therapeutic gardening charity Trellis.
