Born in Brooklyn, New York, Helen Gallagher began her career on stage in 1944 at the age of eighteen, earning two Tony awards. She had made many television appearances, as herself, leading up to her 1975 role of Maeve Ryan in Ryan's Hope. Acting in over 2000 episodes through to 1989 she earned three Emmy awards.
