Art Fleming

Art Fleming is one of the very first Game Show hosts, beginning in New York City at a very early age working as an assistant. He made his way to Writer, Announcer, and Host of several Game Shows. Unfortunately, due to episodes being Erased, and even more frequently the Copyright Holders forbidding reruns of the episodes, you probably do not get to see much of what Art Fleming did. One example is on Pantomime Quiz and its sequels have a surprising amount of episodes still fully preserved which are kept at the U.C.L.A. Archive. His hosting career includes Jeopardy! which was made by Califon Enterprises. They are notorious for erasing their content even after N.B.C. began to preserve daytime television. Surviving footage even for the weekly syndicated year of Jeopardy! is heavily reliant on home recordings. No matter what, Califon Enterprises and Sony forbid the episodes to be reran. Jeopardy! Returned as a Pilot Episode for C.B.S. and unfortunately returned to N.B.C. instead titled The All - New Jeopardy! as its most ambitious attempt yet. Too many rule changes resulted in its network cancelation. A V.T.R. exists for the Pilot, Premiere, and Finale with five additional home recordings uploaded decades later. It is unknown how many exist on The Trading Circuit. During the 1980s is when game shows finally fully preserved. Unfortunately, around this time game shows were dumbed down. Art Fleming declined to work on Jeopardy! again, stating too many easy questions or "answers", the host must complete the sentences first, and restrictions on Winnings. Art Fleming also stated he did not approve of working in Los Angeles. He got a job as a radio announcer for College Bowl, and appeared on an episode of NOVA. He died of Pancreatic Cancer 25 years before Alex Trebek died the same way.
