Ian Chappell

Ian Michael Chappell is a former captain of the Australian and South Australian cricket teams in a career running from 1961 to 1980. After have retired from first class cricket at the end of the 1975-76 season, Chappell was made captain of the Australian team in the inaugural season of the Kerry Packer funded World Series Cricket. Chappell retired for good at the end of the 1979-80 season.

Ian was the eldest of three boys who all played cricket professionally. Greg played with South Australia, Queensland and Australia (capt). Youngest brother Trevor represented South Australia, West Australia, New South Wales and Australia.

Chappell move to the commentary box with channel 9, covering the cricket in the 1980-81 season, a position he held till 2018, when the coverage moved to channel 7. He then moved to cricket broadcasting on the radio with Macquarie Sports Radio in 2018. Ian retired in 2022 after having moved to the ABC radio coverage.
