Scott H. Smith is a Scottish horticulturist, head gardener, garden writer and television presenter, best known for his work as Head Gardener and presenter on the BBC Scotland gardening programme Beechgrove Garden.
Smith entered horticulture after leaving university and taking a seasonal gardening job with the National Trust for Scotland, later training through the Royal Horticultural Society and gaining RHS horticultural qualifications, including MHort/RHS-level study. He worked in several gardening roles and became Head Gardener for the National Trust for Scotland at Pitmedden Garden and Haddo House before joining Beechgrove Garden as Head Gardener and presenter in 2023. He left that role in 2024 to become Head Gardener at Mayen Estate in Aberdeenshire/Banffshire, and has also written gardening columns for The Press and Journal.
Smith has been recognised by HortWeek among the UK's top head gardeners and is also known for speaking openly about mental health in horticulture.
