In 1963, he founded the Spencer Davis Group, with himself on guitar, a teenage Steve Winwood on organ and vocals, Steve's brother Muff on bass and Peter York on drums. In 1967, at the height of their popularity, Winwood quit to join Traffic, and the Spencer Davis Group broke up soon afterward.
