Born in Metairie, Louisiana, Sal Khan took upper-level mathematics courses at the University of New Orleans while he was in high school, and graduated in 1998 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with degrees in electrical engineering, computer science and mathematics. In 2009 he quit his job as a financial analyst and along with a close friend, devoted his time to developing his YouTube channel, Khan Academy, a non-profit providing free world class education to anyone, anywhere.
