Born in Los Angeles, California, John David Washington played a small role at the age of eight in the 1992 film Malcolm X, alongside his father Denzel Washington and showed no further interest in acting for many years. Devoting his time to sports, he played college football at Morehouse College, signing with the St. Louis Rams as a running back. He returned to acting in 2015 at age 31, taking on the role of Ricky Jerret in Ballers.
