Mary Lou Retton is a retired American gymnast. During the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, she won a gold medal in the individual all-around competition, plus two silver and two bronze medals. Retton's historic gold medal win made her the first American woman to win the all-around gold medal in Olympic gymnastics.
