Daryl Anderson

Daryl Anderson, who was born on July 1 in Seattle, Wash., claims he decided to become an actor at age 5, when he realized that "guys on television didn't really die when they got shot."
He started acting in high school in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue. He graduated in 1975 from the University of Washington's professional actors training program, after performing there in a wide range of classical, period and modern dramas.
Two weeks after he left school, he got his first professional job, a role in the feature film "Sweet Revenge." He also understudied at the Seattle Repertory Theater.
In 1976, he went to Hollywood, and joined the Los Angeles Actors Theater. There, seen in a production of "Female Transport," in which he played a lovestruck Cockney youth, he was invited to read for the role of a scruffy newspaper photographer in "Lou Grant." He researched the part by spending time with a Los Angeles Times roving photographer.
His character, the unkempt but dedicated Animal, initially drew some criticism from news photographers, but Anderson's sympathetic portrayal has since won him honors from the U.S. Department of Labor and the Los Angeles Press Photographers Association.
Anderson has taken up photography as a spare time interest, and had the distinction of having a picture he took of a fire near a location filming site printed nationwide after it was transmitted by the Associated Press. He received a check for $50, thereby marking his professional debut as a photographer.
In addition to his "Lou Grant" portrayal, he recently appeared in "The Phoenix," a television film production.
Anderson is 6'4" tall, weighs 170 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes. He enjoys rock and roll music, photography, and what he calls videotape "toys." He lives in Studio City, Calif.
