Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Barry Newman graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. in Anthropology, where he met Lee Strasberg and was inspired to become an actor. He began on stage in New York, both on and off Broadway, and in 1960 debuted in the film Pretty Boy Floyd as Al Riccardo. 'Way Out and The Defenders in 1961 were his first television roles. He landed the lead role as Tony Petrocelli in the 1970 film The Lawyer, which led to the starring role in the 1974 television series Petrocelli.
Barry Newman died at the age of 92 from complications of a heart and spine infection.
