Naturalist and shark expert Steve Backshall celebrates the dazzling diversity of sharks, uncovering their secret lives and the threats they face. He begins by exploring the radical variety of sharks in the Atlantic Ocean and marks the start of a global journey in the so-called shark capital of the world, the Bahamas.

The naturalist learns about the sharks of the Indian Ocean, which despite finding ways to adapt to the environment, face threats from climate change, pollution and overfishing.

The naturalist joins scientists to find the shark hotspots in the Pacific Ocean, where their precious locations are under threat and numbers are plummeting. Steve learns what the sharks offer that is so important to the Pacific and what can be done to preserve them.

Naturalist Steve Backshall goes in search of some of the 30-plus shark species that inhabit the British Isles, showing how the big fish in home waters are just as astonishing and mysterious as their global cousins. Along the way he encounters a four-ton basking shark in the Scottish Hebrides and dives with his favourite of all time, the blue shark, off the coast of Cornwall. He also meets scientists and conservationists in Wales who are working to protect endangered species.
