Edith's distant cousin Floyd and his nine-year-old daughter Stephanie visit the Bunkers while passing through on their way from New Jersey to Fort Lauderdale. Archie is shocked when Floyd abruptly leaves without his daughter and is dead set against letting Stephanie stay in his house, which causes her to run away.

Archie is outraged when he learns that she is going to be operated on by the son of their regular doctor, who Archie knew all too well as one of Gloria's childhood friends.
