Kensington General Hospital has a new assistant administrator. Ann Anderson discovers on her first day at the hospital that the chief of surgery is senile, the head obstetrician can't cope with women and that she is the target for the hospital's philandering doctor. When attractive Ann Anderson arrives to take up an administrative post, her very first day is a startling revelation of how a hospital can function - in spite of its medical staff! The chief surgeon is as absent-minded as they come; the obstetrician can't cope with women-but Charley, the playboy doctor, certainly can.

The hospital needs a new wing, and it is Dr Michaels who tries to raise the money. Charley tries to play both ends against the middle when he lands up having two dinner dates with two jealous women on the same night in the same restaurant. Even for him it is a test of nerves and stamina.

A notorious criminal is admitted to the hospital for surgery and a nervous Charley is appointed to do the honours. There is a bit of preliminary cut and thrust between doctor and patient but it is definitely Charley who's balanced on a knife-edge, so to speak!
