Hugh Dennis and the team take on their first prehistoric dig as they try to unearth ancient roundhouses in the village of Stretton in Staffordshire. Their mission is to work out just how far back in time the settlement dates - is it Bronze Age, Iron Age or from the early Romano British period? Nobody has ever excavated the site before, and for the first time the team dig up a school playing field.

The archaeologists uncover a 19th-century prison with a difference in Wiltshire. Devizes House of Corrections was one of the first panopticon style prisons built in the UK, with its all-seeing central guards' tower which allowed just a handful of guards to monitor and control the lives of hundreds of prisoners. The team want to uncover the prison's lost structures, reveal the secrets of what went on behind its walls and discover just how secure and inescapable it really was.
Season 3

Hugh Dennis and the team are in Odiham, Hampshire, searching for the house of Sir Frances Walsingham, the head of Elizabeth I's Secret Service. It is the first time the site has ever been dug, so with very little to go on, our team want to locate the house, work out its size and scale, and what Walsingham may have used it for. As part of the investigation, Hugh turns his hand to spy craft as he learns how Walsingham used to break codes.

Hugh Dennis and the team visit a a housing estate in Oldham, Greater Manchester, where they attempt to unearth a Victorian mill that was converted into a prisoner of war camp that housed over 6000 men during the Second World War. As part of the investigation, Hugh also visits Manor Mill, a stunning example of a 19th-century cotton mill.

Hugh Dennis and the team solve a 17th-century mystery in King's Lynn, as they hunt for enormous defensive earthworks that surrounded the Norfolk town during the English Civil War. However, as the barricades were built from Earth and the team are looking for them in Earth, finding any evidence of their existence is not going to be easy.

Hugh Dennis and the team go on the hunt for the Morda Workhouse in Oswestry, Shropshire, and search for evidence of what life was really like for the poor who ended up there. As part of his investigation, Hugh also visits Llanfyllin Workhouse, where he takes some hard labour like the inmates would have done - stone breaking.

Hugh Dennis and the team solve a medieval mystery in Coventry, as they search for a monastic grange known as Biggin Hall, which provided produce for the nearby monks at St Mary's Priory. As the team dig deeper, they not only uncover all kinds of exciting artefacts that tell them more about the lives of the monks, but completely redraw the map of what we thought we knew about the grange itself in Coventry.

Hugh Dennis heads a team excavating back gardens around Britain. Joined by archaeological scientist and lecturer at Newcastle University Dr Chloe Duckworth, field archaeologist Natasha Bilson, and author and archaeologist John Henry Phillips, he reveals a new chapter of Roman history in Cornwall, at a recently discovered Roman fort near Calstock. Little was previously known about the Romans in this part of England, but the indications from the team's excavation are that the Romans were not in the south west solely for a military campaign. Hugh also visits the reconstructed Lunt Roman Fort in Coventry.

Hugh Dennis and the team visit Studley Royal Park in North Yorkshire, on a quest to find the lost Georgian mansion that would have been at the heart of the world class Water Gardens, which still exist today. The house and gardens were created by John Aislabie, but his house has vanished from the landscape and the only clue the team has to go on is a fallen tree that's revealed some mysterious bricks. With the help of the local community, the team uncovers the foundations of this Georgian mansion and finds out about the grand lives of the family who once lived there.

Hugh Dennis and the team visit the village of Strelley in Nottinghamshire, on a quest to find the long-lost medieval castle of a knight from the 14th century. Sampson de Strelley came from a long line of knights and rose to become the Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, but the castle he built has vanished from the landscape.
