Turns out it wasn’t a final goodbye from Australia’s Neighbours after all. The iconic soap, about the Ramsay Street residents living in the fictional Erinsborough, has been saved from the scrapheap by Amazon’s free streamer Freevee, following a deal with program maker Fremantle.

Margot Robbie will return to the set of Neighbours alongside Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer, singer Delta Goodrem, Kym Valentine and Carla Bonner for the finale. Like many Australian actors, Robbie spent the early years of her career on the show, playing Donna Freedman between 2008 and 2011. She went on to star in films such as Birds of Prey, Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood, Goodbye Christopher Robin, Peter Rabbit, Dreamland, and I, Tonya.

Australian soap opera Neighbours will be axed after 37 years on our screens. The news was confirmed on Thursday after Australian production company Fremantle Media failed to find a new broadcast partner following UK network Channel 5’s decision to withdraw its partnership.

Neighbours has been dropped by Channel 5, putting the long-running Australian soap opera's future under threat. The UK network announced on Sunday it would stop showing the programme later this year, after airing it for more than a decade. Singer and former Neighbours star Jason Donovan said the soap "changed the Australian television landscape". Australian broadcaster Network 10 said it would look for a new partner to work with to keep it on air.
