Velo Misto (The Big Town) is a cult Yugoslav/Croatian comedic-historical TV series written by Miljenko Smoje, directed by Joakim Marušić, and broadcast from late 1980 to early 1981 (spanning 1910 to 1947).
The series serves as a sweeping, colorful, and often humorous "unofficial history" of the city of Split through the first half of the 20th century. It captures the massive social, political, and cultural transformations the Mediterranean city underwent—transitioning from the Austro-Hungarian Empire through the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Italian and German occupation in World War II, up to the post-war communist era.
