Psychologist Júlia goes to Sara and Luísa's school, following a request from her friend Leonor. Rita Rodrigues, a young mother, desperately appeals to institutions for help to recover her baby daughter who was taken from her by a social worker. A series of dramatic events culminates in the tragic death of one of the young women Julia spoke to. The sea, silent and imposing, is the only spectator of the crime, keeping deep secrets that defy everyone's understanding.

Júlia begins to collaborate with Inspector Pedro Sousa in the investigation and is confronted with the ghosts of her own past when she has to announce Luísa's death to her parents and Sara. Rita keeps trying to get her daughter back and finally finds someone who knows what she's going through. The search for truth begins. Pedro Sousa has few clues to work with and many suspicions. Who could want to kill someone like Luísa?

Leonor is destroyed by what is happening to her daughter. Júlia tries to help them, but there is nothing she can do as Pedro Sousa is determined to do everything he can to find the killer. Rita continues to struggle to find her daughter and this leads her to confront painful memories from her past.

A witness finally decides to speak, prompting Pedro Sousa to call one of the suspects back for questioning. With no hope of finding her daughter, Rita sinks into deep despair. Júlia receives another phone call from Leonor who needs her help with Sara. Everyone struggles under the weight of the lies that threaten to change their lives forever.

Distraught, Júlia suspects someone close to her and shares her suspicions with Pedro Sousa. The interrogations continue. Meanwhile, Rita follows a lead to try to find her daughter. The past and present collide and the truth finally begins to be revealed.
