Cosmonautics is a great achievement of a great country! On October 4, 1957, the USSR launched the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik, and less than four years later, the first human spaceflight took place. Over these 55 years, Yuri Gagarin was joined by 119 more cosmonauts. As of March 2016, exactly 120 of our compatriots have contributed to the exploration of space, and each of them is undoubtedly a hero and a legend. Just like the brilliant scientists who brought recent science fiction to life. The "Legends of Space" series is dedicated to these people, as well as to the most significant events in the history of Russian cosmonautics.
This story will not only be about the familiar heroes of the Soviet era—Gagarin, Tereshkova, Titov, Leonov, Grechko, Savitskaya—but also about those who have found themselves beyond the Earth in the 21st century: Russian cosmonauts and scientists. What are these heroes like, not only in orbit but also in their lives on Earth? These are perhaps the two main questions that the "Legends of Space" series will answer.
