They both teach at the same public school and their principal has given them Friday off to get the job done. But renovating in the city is not easy. They have renovated their kitchen together and are now ready to totally redo their living room. They want to make the room more efficient and update its look by replacing the old walls with drywall and adding insulation. They also want to tear out the big window in their living room that's driving up their heating bill. While Ian has some experience with home improvement, neither of them has ever installed windows. They need to do their project quickly since both of them have to get back to work. They're allocating 5 thousand dollars to the project.

Marcel and Daryl Fingers are a busy couple with demanding jobs, leaving them with no time to renovate their bland, boring master bath. Lori and Marshall Mitchell have purchased a fixer-upper in Austin, Texas. Problem is, both Marshall and Lori are wheelchair users and the home they've purchased is not wheelchair friendly. Although Pomai considers herself a handywoman, Stephen is an accountant and is not used to the exhausting physical labor. Charlene Brown is trying to renovate her fixer-upper home in Pasadena, California. However, she has run out of money and has had to put the renovations on hold. Her plan is to move some roommates in so that Charlene can make some cash. But there is a problem: only one roommate would have access to the bathroom. To fix this, Charlene has decided to create a hallway allowing both roommates access to the bathroom. After five days of backbreaking work, not to mention blowing through their budget, Steven and Betsy finish less than half of the renovation and they soon realizes that this renovation is going to longer than either of them ever expected.

Kelvin and Charlene Wiebe just bought their first home, and it's the definition of a fixer-upper. In fact, the kitchen is so bad that they cannot move in until it's completely gutted and rebuilt. The roof leaks like crazy, and the water damage has caused the support beams to bow and buckle. In other words, it could collapse at anytime. Even though Stephen has plenty of experience with this type of work, nothing can prepare him for the follies that ensue. From nearly collapsing through the roof and onto the concrete below, to some hired help that can't seem to live up to his standards, Stephen's renovation is full of mishaps. With his back feeling worse every day, Stephen is determined to push through-even if it means he can't move once the job is finished.

Luke and Sarah Allen live in a nice home in a nice neighborhood, but the house was built in the 1950s when rooms were small and choppy. This is an issue for the Allens because Luke is a youth leader at a local high school and they need an open space to hold meetings with the kids. With the project just over half complete, and no vacation time left for either of them, Vicki and Mark decide to call the renovation to a halt while they still have even half a bathroom standing.

Thanks to some pesky plumbing, uncooperative tools, and lots of heavy lifting, Vince and Sharon are constantly under the gun to finish before Delores arrives home. To make matters worse, minutes before Delores is due to walk through the door, the duo suffers a setback that leaves Vincent fearing that, if he doesn't finish the project before she walks in, he'll be spending the rest of his life in Sophia's tiny little dog house.

As the renovation begins, the Rich's battle a broken trailer, job interruptions, their kids, and eventually, each other. As they near the end of their renovation, the Rich's finally succeed in installing their new front entryway just as the weather dips below freezing and nightfall sets in.

Nancy McFarland and her daughter, Melissa, have just bought a dilapidated Victorian home in Georgetown, Kentucky with the plans to renovate and move in as soon as possible. As the renovation gets underway, though, the scope and scale of this job becomes painfully obvious as each day brings with it a series of new and unforeseen challenges. Battling a gas line problem, a missing kitchen cabinet, and wet drywall mud, the couple struggle to stay on schedule and under budget. Eventually, and with tensions on the rise, Cheryl and Jess come to the agonizing realization that this project is going to take far longer than either one of them ever expected.

While neither is a stranger to smaller renovations, Lauren's confrontational and controlling attitude has been known to cause a few sparks between the couple. This complete bathroom overhaul will surely be a strenuous project, but as long as Mike's prepared to accommodate all of Lauren's demands, they should end up with their ideal bathroom.

Keith's perfectionist and stubborn character mixed with Andrea's detail oriented attitude will likely cause some problems, but after eight years of marriage, they're positive they can handle it together.

Baha Khalil has enlisted his best friend Mustafa to help him renovate his disgusting kitchen. Basically, everything needs to be torn out and replaced. The cabinets are old, cheap and ugly, so they're planning on ripping them out and replacing them with something more modern. This kitchen renovation is the last thing Baha needs to complete before moving into his new home, and he's positive that with his best friend's help, he can finally have the kitchen of his dreams.

The ceiling is drooping and needs to come down, a broken window and its frame will be replaced and the broken flooring will be torn out as well. When all demo is complete, Whitney and Brad will then install insulation, drywall and new bamboo floors throughout. Even after all of this work, they are planning on hiding an exposed HVAC duct somehow. With limited DIY experience, The Hancocks are overwhelmed by the sheer size of this renovation, but know that they need the extra space.

While both are familiar with minor renovations, this project is larger than anything either has taken on before. However, they both agree that the added space is paramount, so they're willing to do anything to get it done.

Combine that with the fact that Chad describes his plumbing and electrical skills as "sub-par at best," and this renovation will surely challenge the couple's problem-solving skills.

A new stone walkway will be laid down to add a warm and inviting finishing touch to this ambitious project. Jaci and Nic are excited to have a front porch that their children aren't afraid of, that won't injure friends and family who walk on it, and they can't wait to get started.
