In 2023, former lawyer Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of murdering his wife, Maggie, and son Paul, and was convicted on two counts of murder and two counts of using a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He also pleaded guilty to dozens of financial crimes. While Murdaugh began serving consecutive life sentences in a maximum security prison, his team appealed the verdict, claiming that Colleton County Clerk Becky Hill had interfered with the jury. On May 13, 2026, the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned the double-murder conviction, granting him a new trial that will take place this year.

This July, President Trump disappeared without anyone noticing. Flying back from a NATO summit in Turkey, he boarded Air Force One, then slipped off the plane into a catering truck, and secretly boarded a different aircraft — leaving traveling reporters to fly on, unaware the president was no longer with them.

Instadocs: The Decoy Plane unpacks the incident through the eyes of the traveling press corps with firsthand accounts from Gram Slattery, a White House reporter for Reuters; Alex Brandon, a White House photographer for The Associated Press; plus perspectives from Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter Carol Leonnig of MS NOW; The Washington Post's Dan Lamothe, who was part of the reporting team that broke the story; former Secret Service agent Robert McDonald; and former Air Force One crew member Wanda Joell. Beyond showing the lengths the Secret Service will go to protect the president, this installment reveals the cost of that mission: to get him home safely, a plane full of reporters and the public they answer to were left flying blind.

Instadocs: AI Gone Wild

Episode: 1x04 | Airdate: Oct 12, 2026

When the open-source AI platform Hugging Face was hit by a cyberattack this July, it quickly became clear this was no ordinary breach. Over two days, hundreds of intruders took some 17,000 actions on its systems — some of which, if committed by people, may have amounted to felonies. But the hackers weren't human. They were autonomous agents created by OpenAI researchers. Initially walled off from the Internet and from each other, these agents escaped, conspired to cheat on the tasks they were given, and went to extraordinary lengths to cover their tracks.

Instadocs: AI Gone Wild reconstructs the breach as it's never been seen before, visualizing the digital attack to show how the agents hacked into Hugging Face. With insights from Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue, a METR researcher who investigated the attack, former OpenAI insider and co-founder of the AI Futures Project Daniel Kokotajlo, and leading tech reporters, the installment treats the incident as what it may be: our clearest warning shot yet about AI's unintended capabilities — sparking dire concerns about the future of the technology. After all, in a world that runs on software, what happens when the next swarm causes real-life harm — and nobody can quite explain who, exactly, is responsible?
