O Bem-Amado

Mayor Odorico Paraguaçu—a corrupt politician full of schemes—has made the inauguration of the local cemetery the top priority of his administration in the fictional town of Sucupira, on the coast of Bahia, deciding to follow the example set by his father, Odorico I. He is fawned over by his stuttering secretary, Dirceu Borboleta—an expert on lepidoptera—and enjoys the unconditional support of the Cajazeira sisters, his political allies and fervent defenders: Doroteia, Dulcineia, and Judiceia.
