Alternate Airdate Showings

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

1. Is there any shows on the site that air in or previously aired in a Foreign Country but now in the U.S. If so how do we go about indicating the U.S. Network, time it airs in the U.S. day or days it airs in the U.S. etc.? Canada is a great example of shows airing there and also airing in the U.S. on different Networks, days and times. Also sometimes shows originate in Canada and then subsequent Seasons only air in the U.S.

2. If we do have shows already airing in 2 or more countries either the same years or one ended in one Country but is now airing in another Country then I propose that we have a separate Forum thread for Members to indicate what shows they need to have an Alternate Airdate Network added into like it could be this thread for instance. Here is what I purpose as the way it might read:

Alternate Airdate Network needs to be added to this Show! - Please report any shows that air or have aired in 1 Country and now will be airing in a different country that you need to have an Alternate Airdate Network added into it for the new country airing.

3. If we do not yet have any shows that air or have aired in 2 or more countries can we begin to get them added and I propose that a separate link is added to every show that says/indicates "Alternate Airdate Network Showings" that would take you to a sub menu that allows you to pick the season and Episode # then a list of every possible Country to be selected from. Then a date airs field, time airs field and an Alternate Title field if the episode in question is called something else other than what it was originally called or it may never have had an original title? Finally a Note/Submission line to provide a comment or a URL proof of the Alternate Airdate Network showing.

1. We currently only track the original airdate for an episode. So if a show originally airs in a country other than the US, there is no way to indicate an episode's US airdate. We have brainstormed about adding support for adding alternate airdates in the past, but held off on it for now because we're not sure if there would be much interest in this data. People increasingly watch an episode as soon as it is available - through netflix, itunes, or other means - instead of waiting for a TV network to re-air the episode.

So in theory we're open to the idea, but we'd have to make sure that people really care for this information first. What would be the reason you're interested in this?

2. I've been meaning to allow adding a network to season as well as a show. That way you can easily indicate that a show has changed networks throughout its run. That should solve this matter, no?

3. Same as #1

Hi Jaguardog,

I'd like to add to the conversation by telling you that we're currently discussing this internally. We see some value in having the airdates of other countries. We will likely add this functionality in the future. We don't have an eta in mind yet. We're currently working on some other tools that need to get finished first. If more people request this feature, we'll bump it up.

If you have any other remarks, suggestions let us know :)

Hello David, the reason I am interested is not for me personally but for the site's betterment. If a show aired a few years ago in the UK and now a US Network is going to air it how would you be able to allow the US air-dates to be displayed here? I can better explain it with this perfect example:

Biggest and Baddest - aired 2, 6 Episode seasons in Canada on their Animal Network from 5 Jan. 2013 to 5 Jan. 2015. It is now airing the same episodes in the US on the National Geographic Wild channel as of 5 June 2015, Fridays at 8PM. Now technically that show would be here under Canada because that is where it aired 1st. Would you not want to show the progression of the shows original episodes in Canada 1st and therefore not alternating any of the Canada showings but you would want to indicate at least on the daily TV listings of shows that it now airs elsewhere?

Now this show also throws an unusual Monkey Wrench into this whole equation. Season #1 in the US aired on Velocity TV, but now Season #2 is showing on NGW only.

I'm not sure that we should. As with everything, if there is plenty of demand for a feature we'll build it, but I haven't yet seen it in this case.

Episodes re-run all the time. Sometimes on their original network, sometimes on a different network, and sometimes in a different country entirely; but that's still just a re-run. I personally wouldn't want to see an episode appear in my watchlist/calendar when it originally aired years ago, since in that case it's probably been available via bluray/download long before.

There does not seem to be much demand for anything yet because of how new the site is and how few members the site must have. Since we members cannot see who and how many members have joined the site so far I could only assume less than a 100 maybe? Also if I new the date the site went on-line I might have a better grasp of how many members might be here? With all of that being said the site needs many many things like a page of Q&A's for example - If I need to add this where do I go to do that or If I have a specific question to ask how do I know what Forum to place it in these are just examples and perhaps bad examples?

How about a page of Do's & Dont's would be handy - The site will allow/accept photos that are in jpg, jpeg, gif etc. the site cannot accept photos in png formats? No way for me to know if there is any forms of photos that I can't submit. Most sites I have ever visited do have the capabilities to except png photos but will this site accept them? Another would be what type of photos are not acceptable/allowed on the site - Porn photos for example I assume, Are there any kinds of photos that are also not allowed such as photos exposing belly buttons, or exposing to much cleavage or photos that are suggestive in any way or photos that show racism?

Another example is - The site does not allow or accept 1 episode only specials, documentaries, theatrical releases or made for TV movies.

How does a member accumulate social points/credits - Is it based on comments, Forum Posts or a combination of things and what are they?

I have a few site questions/comments if you don’t mind baring in mind that I know/understand that the site is new and still in it’s infancy stages? - My laundry list of Q's if you might?

1. What date did the site start/kick-off?

2. Is there a place to see all of the member’s names/usernames if not is it in the plans?

3. Why is there not a list of the site STAFF somewhere readily available to see.

4. I saw the site’s TOS and it is the shortest one I have ever read or seen but that’s not a bad thing I was just saying because it leads me into my next question.

5. Can we sometime soon get a page of instructions (step-by-step for the illiterate ones mostly myself) of how you do different things here? How to add a show or what link to use. How to add a person or what link to use. How to correct information on a person or show. How to report a duplicate person profile (possibly with 1 or more letters in their named misspelled)? How to have a duplicate show removed if needed?

6. Can we get a site page news for many different things such as this feature was added today and this is how you use it. The site had it’s 100th person set up an account here today or 1,000th, 5,000th etc. Other items of news that members might find interesting is “BLANK Show” was renewed today for season 11.

7. I propose a separate page of celebrity birthdates/birthdays. A separate page for celebrity deaths.

8. I also propose a page of stats – Member stats, celebrity stats and show stats. Examples would be

Most visited show this week, this month, this year. Shows with the most members following. Member stats could be from their profile information # of people followed, # of shows followed etc. Badges earned to date (only 20 are available as of today) but you may have ideas on how to add new badges as well?

9. How are Social Points built up? I had 7 points for over 24 hours now all of a sudden I 71 points and no clue how I got them what I did to get them?

10. ChatterBug - Write at least 50 comments – Write comments on what? Shows, Episodes, People, Articles or POSTS in the Forum or a combination of 1 or more?

11. Is it possible to make it so we can FOLLOW a show, person etc. from the photo itself so we do not have to click on the photo to go inside and then click Follow?

12. Still waiting for a response to a question I posted 2 days ago. Can we have STATE added for those celebrities born in the U.S. ?

Well,

the site started October 2014, since then we are steadily growing.

I do not know the exact registered members count, but it is around 2000 by now :)

All the other stuff you asked and requested, david or Jan will answer, some of it is already on the to-do-list.

Just be a bit patient, we all have our daytime jobs.

if I look for example how slow staff on tvrage is answering, if they are answering at all, you should be in good hands around here :)

cheers

Juan

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Thanks Juan and I know you all have day jobs, I'm not expecting ROME to be built in a day it's just things for the future on your next mission in the Galaxy so to speak! As far as RAGE you can say that 1000 times over it normally takes 1 to 2 weeks if there is any response whatsoever. I know I am good hands and I don't expect prompt responses even within 3 days would be great. I don't want to have to continue to say in my POSTS "But it's no hurry take your time, I know you guys have day jobs, I wish I did as well"

You guys have been doing a fantastic job and I am 95% satisfied with responses and how the site is set up and looks, how smoothly it runs and how FAST, BUGS are resolved! If you guys were being paid I would recommend all 4 of you to get a raise for how hard you all work? I am assuming there is only 4 based on Forum POSTS and responses, 3 guys, 1 girl and a Pizza Place! I think the names I have seen are David, Jan, Juan & Thomas so if there is anyone else I apologize for not knowing and acknowledging them as well! A list of STAFF and there titles somewhere would be a GREAT site addition I think? "But it's no hurry take your time, I know you guys have day jobs, I wish I did as well"

BTW I have been working for the past hour on adding summaries and photos (Episode screen shots) to all of the "Dance Moms" episodes for the current Season 5 thanks to the lifetime.com site.

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

cheers

Juan

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Thank you very much for saying so Juan it is greatly appreciated to be recognized, something I never got even once in over 10 years at the other site I work at!

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

it is simply the truth, ThomasNL is also doing a very great job here :D

cheers
Juan

There does not seem to be much demand for anything yet because (...)

As Juan wrote, we launched in October 2014 and have over 2000 registered users currently. We don't yet have a public user index (though one is planned, as something like a leaderboard), but you can see a user's ID in the URL if you visit someone's profile, so you can get a bit of a sense how much people are around here.

You're right that not all our policies and conventions are clear yet. We try to be as self explanatory as possible by showing small bits of instructions and help texts throughout the site, but obviously this isn't always good enough. So keep on asking these questions if anything is unclear, that's a great reference for us as soon as we get around to writing more detailed FAQ entries! For now, we lauched the capability to search through the forums yesterday, so you can search if your question has already been answered there.

Pretty much any image format you can think of is accepted, including PNG.

The amount of social points is based on your amount of forum posts & episode/article comments.

6. We have the blog for this purpose, we try to write on there if anything significant happens.

7-8. Both interesting, though not super high prio

10. Anywhere you can leave comments using the "comment" button, currently on articles and episodes.

11. You can already do this, but it's slightly sneaky. If you look very closely, you'll see there's a small heart icon in the bottom right of the show poster. If you click on it, it'll light up and you'll have followed the show.

12. I think I replied to that back then: I personally don't think that level of detail is very interesting at this stage. But happy to hear other people's opinions about this. :)

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Thank you very, very much for all those great responses and for taking the time to respond. Earlier in this thread above I said this "I am 95% satisfied with responses" now for the reason it is not higher! This is not anything against you personally however a lot of your responses in the 13 days I have been here sound pretty much the same "I personally don't think"! In other words the response is based on what you feel your personal opinion, you can read the minds of the majority of the membership etc. I believe a better response would be is one of the two 1. We will post this question/suggestion on the ???????????????????? Board (wherever) and see what members have to say about this, how they feel, for or against or neutral OR 2. I need to bring this up with all the STAFF and see what they think about this and get back to you at a later date!

Thanks again for everything, Ron.

Jan & David are the owners of TVMaze and if they don't feel comfortable with those new changes, it won't be happening. We can suggest better additions, however it is their choice and they might have a different goal for this page rather than many other opinions :)

Jan wrote 10 years ago: 1

David is correct to state what his own opinion is on the forum instead of saying 'we'. Anyone else can chime in and counter argument. :)
We usually discuss points brought up off site or on the forums to come to a final conclusion.

Yeah, this is very much already the case! :) If a suggestion is something that we definitely can't or won't do, I'll say so very clearly. Anything else ("I think", "I'm not sure", etc) means that it would be a possibility but that I'm personally not yet convinced we should do it in the forseeable future. In those cases feedback from other users is welcome though; in general if there's a lot of demand for a feature and it's feasible to build it, we will.

So for you and everyone else: if you read about a suggestion on the forums and want it as well, reply and let us know. It's the number one source that determines our roadmap :)

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

OK thanks for the additional information David, I will gladly chime in if I have 2 cents to add or 1 cent after taxes? Sorry I took so long in responding as I have been pretty sick most of the week but really worse today!

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

David, I am very confused here, I guess this is you asking and then leaving us a link to put shows like that in that thread? Anyways "Atlantis" airs in the UK on BBC one and as far as I know the most recent episode which was Season 2, Episode 12 of 13 "The Queen Must Die" aired in the UK on 16 May. This show also airs in the U.S. on BBC America and the 1st new episode since 20 December 2014 airs tonight in the U.S. which is Season 2, Episode 7 "A Fate Worse Than Death" at 9 PM, EST. I however have no clue how to indicate it's US airing. I believe I mentioned this problem about shows airing in 2 different countries at the same time last week however either I never got a definitive answer on what needs to be done to show the US airings on the site or if it was answered I have no idea what it meant? So can we show both the UK and US airing times & dates or not please?
