Site Q&A's

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

I could not find a thread anywhere to ask basic questions not related to a show, person, network etc. that is why I started this thread.

My question concerns what I call "One shots" as I have not found any at all so I was wondering if there had been any discussions around allowing one shots on the site or not? A one shot is a Made for TV Movie, a 1 episode only special or documentary, a one-night only stand-up comedy routine that Comedy Central, HBO & Showtime all air quite often. Lastly a one-shot could be a 1-night only airing every single year as in Award shows, Emmy's, Oscars, Country Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, MTV Movie Awards or like a 1st a year special like the one that aired yesterday on TBS called the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award which was The 39th annual AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Steve Martin, it's not an awards show as they go as they select 1 person every single year to receive this special award for their achievement over there entire career.

We currently don't support "One Shot" specials, only long-running shows with more than one episode.

If there is enough interest, we can add support for it in the future though. We've brainstormed about it in the past; it would be a separate type (instead of "Show"), because these specials wouldn't have a status (running/ended/etc), episode list, etcetera.

OK then what is the stand on Annual Award shows?

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

Not entirely sure. If it's something that has the same format every year and airs on the same network every year, I think it makes sense to add it as a regular show. What does everybody else think?

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Well most award shows not all air on the same Network every year and the same for Beauty Pageants that I forgot to mention earlier that also air yearly. However if 2 or 3 out of 15 award shows do not air on the same Network the following year I'm sure that the site has something in place to change the Network if necessary so that should not be a caveat or reason to say NO!

I simply do not have an opinion on this as I never watch Award Shows, so my vote is neutral :)

Never bothered to watch any award shows as I usually don't agree with them haha.

Things like award shows might repeat themselves yearly. So it's clear that they belong on the site.

I think I read somewhere on the forum that at some point it will be possible to add networks where a show was aired and it will display the history of where a show has aired. An example for this would be 'Futurama'. So it wouldn't matter how much a show switches.

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

Yes thank you very much for your insight Kathy. I think the biggest and most important reason to be able to change Networks when a show moves is because sites like NetFlix & Hulu have been buying a lot of old cancelled shows and "Arrested Development" comes to mind right away more later if needed?

BTW - I love your cute kitty

I added in a New Show in Development "Shadowhunters" however the exact release date of Episode #1 is not known only the year of 2016 and I put 2016 and left the day and month blank. It excepted it however when I look at it now it shows the 1st Episode aired on 1 January 1970. Please fix this and it sounds like a major bug to me NOT to allow a year only if you do not have the day & month so we don't have to leave it totally blank. Also I have other New Shows currently in development to add only knowing the Year and Month no exact date yet so the system should also allow for these 2 items only as well please without putting in it's own wrong date?

When ever I add in the very 1st Episode to a show for the 1st system it will not take 1 for the season as a matter of fact it will not take anything in that field until you finish all thew other input, hit error and then get the error message that a Season must be entered (NO Kidding, I know that but it won't take it) after the error message appears it then opens up a new drop down box so I can put in the 1 and it will then except it this second time. Please fix this BUG so no one has to put up with hitting enter 2 times on every 1st Episode? Let me tell you this gets very frustrating after having to do each show twice when you are adding a lot of new shows!

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

If an episode's airdate is not yet known, you can just leave it empty. The field indeed requires a real date, entering only a year isn't currently supported. I'm not sure if we should support it either, it sounds like a bit of a hack for a piece of information ("will most likely premiere in 2016") that doesn't belong with an episode airdate. Perhaps it does belong somewhere else though, on the Show or on the Season level..

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

If I could find a place to put the Year it will debut or a Year & Month it will debut I will gladly do that?

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

Yeah, there isn't currently one, but we could add this. I think Season could be the right place; then it can also be used for shows that are currently on hitatus but scheduled to return in a certain period.

I am having a problem with my photos mostly on shows. They seem to be processing so large that some of the show title is cut off on one side of the screen sometimes both sides. Or at times the photo is shown shifted to the left too far. Anyways I do not know how to use any of those photo sites and I have tried to learn with no success so I assume this old dog can't learn new tricks and give up to do anything with photos at all. I really don't want to waste anyone's time trying to teach me how to use one because many different people have tried over the years with no success, everything just goes over my head. Do you have any suggestions on how or what should I do with those too large to show up correctly?

The funny thing about the photos is the sites I get them from they show a lot smaller then what this site makes them appear so I'm not sure why the site keeps enlarging them?

JuanArango wrote 10 years ago: 1

Jaguardog, for shows that are in development and will air in 2016 it is very hard or impossible to find a fitting poster art, but do not worry,

we will find better poster art when the airdate is coming closer :)

For a few shows you added I found a slightly betetr fitting art, but for the rest you already found the best one available so far.

cheers

Juan

JAGUARDOG wrote 10 years ago: 1

When you say poster art do you mean a show photo because I have never heard photos called that before becasue photos are not art and they are not posters either so I'm confused as what you are referring to?

Sorry about some of those show photos being so large they don't really look quite as good as they looked originally when I copied them becasue the site keeps enlarging them too much!

I was wondering is there any rhyme or reason as to the shows that appear on the home page, no order at all and not sure why some are old and some are new? Are the shows there based on popularity and if so is that based on how many clicks a show gets from members and non-members?
