"An error occurred: undefined"

flash_garrick wrote 9 years ago: 1

Whenever I go to a different page in a thread, about half the time I click the "next" button or the page number I get a pop-up saying "An error occurred: undefined". The other half of the time it works fine. Is this a bug or an unfortunate side effect of the system? Apologies if there have already been threads about this; I tried searching the forums and got nothing.

I have not heard about this before, david or jan need to check on this, but it seems this only happens to you, otherwise some other users would have posted it.

cheers
Juan

I see it quite often, I just presumed that because it happened so often to me you'd already know about it - if I had to guess, I'd probably say it's something to do with the pjax javascript (specifically when there's an xhr error)

That's very odd! I've never experienced that or heard about it before today.

Any chance you could open up your developer toolbar (F12) when it happens and let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary on the console & network tabs?

I would have done that but if you look at the code:

$(document).on('pjax:error',function(event,xhr,textStatus,errorThrown,options){alert('An error occurred\n\n'+ xhr.responseText);history.back();});

You can't open the developer tools whilst the Alert popup is there and once you close it, it goes back in your history meaning that the information in the developer tools will be lost.

Just tried navigating through a thread with the developer tools already open -- when the pop-up hit, absolutely nothing happened (or appeared to happen).
