Is there a policy on how to input episodes as far as their format/formatting?

JAGUARDOG wrote 9 years ago: 1

If there is not a policy in place can we please get one so all episodes in a season stay in the same format please. Otherwise 10 different members will add episode titles in the way they want them to look or be and this is not a good practice and it is not consistent and if not an entire show every season but at least a season of episodes should all be formatted the same am I not correct in this assumption?

We apparently have a new member on the site that just loves to spell out the day of the week with the date as well when adding episodes that do not have a set title. This show is just one example I have seen lately of this new way to add episodes and frankly I do not believe we want this kind of input here?

Please correct the formatting of the 7 most recent episodes for me if you will? You also might consider letting that member know to follow the current formatting of episodes titles and not change it please?

This is not how I copied and pasted it here but since no one cares how the forum changes things and also refuses to even comment on this subject then I must assume this will never be fixed?

Ron, I think fixing the formatting of the forum is not a high priority, I will fix the episodes now :)

That may be the case however since I have complained about over a dozen times in the past year alone someone should at lease let me know if it is on the "To Do" list for some future year fix?

If it had not been ignored for so awful long I wouldn't keep mentioning it almost weekly?

I'm pretty sure Juan's comment suggests it is on a to-do list, just isn't a priority fix right now.

From the FAQ:

If no official episode titles are available, the rules are as follows. In all these cases, the chosen format must be applied consistently within a show.

For talk shows, a list of guests which appeared in the episode may be put in the name.

For sports or documentaries, a very brief unique identifier of the episode may be used. For example, the names of the teams competing in a sports match, or the name of a person or location that's the subject of this episode.

For award shows or other events, the official title of the event should be used. For example, "The 87th Academy Awards".

In all other scenarios, the fallback is to name the episode "Episode X", where X is the episode number for that episode. In case of a foreign (non-English) show, the local translation of "episode" may be used. In no case should the season number be included in the episode name.

Wouldn't it be the fallback of Episode X for news as it doesn't really fit any of the other categories?

That is all very interesting information and thanks for providing it. However I fail to see where it says anything about every episode in a show or season should remain in the same consistent format and not be changed but if it is there and I am not seeing/reading it sorry as I can't read between the lines. Therefore it must be spelled out to be a followed policy I believe?

I agree it makes sense and it should be that way however some members or at least one member needs to have it written down so they stop messing things up with their own format I guess?

I'm not sure what you're getting at; that's a quote from the episodes FAQ... it is already written down.

Excuse me? Please read my 1st post in this thread and you will see what I mean. A member added episodes to the show but nhot in the same way the majority were already previously added!

Gazza is stating that they aren't following the FAQ post. Juan has said he will fix the episodes and inform the member.

It has all been taken care of :)

As the other members have already clarified, the FAQ already states that episode naming must be consistent within a season.

The text editor that we use for the forums is an external component, it's not written by ourselves. Unfortunately the newer versions have only gotten worse instead of better, so upgrading isn't possible. We'll have to replace it completely, which is actually on our TODO list but quite time consuming.
