It would be nice if TVMAZE would check for and use your Gravatar as forum avatar if one exist.

We don't feel like having such a feature enhances the functionality and purpose of TVmaze. We are also avoiding adding services from third parties such as this because we would have to support it from that point on. Should you have any counterpoints let us know.

My counterpoints would be:
1) It is one less configuration step needed.
2) There's not much to support (the gravatar API is really simple, it's just http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/:md5-of-email/) and the API hasn't changed in the last 4-5 years to my knowledge.
This is obviously just a suggestion, and one that doesn't matter too much.
We mostly want to have as little external dependencies as possible. This is good for the site performance and gives us unlimited flexibility.
A compromise that I wouldn't oppose would be to automatically "download" your gravatar, if you have one, to TVmaze when you register. Not exactly high priority though ;-), but I'll keep it in mind.
