Mark show aquired in addition to watched

jt4703 wrote 9 years ago: 1

I'm transferring my tv calendar over here since myepisodes is still using tvrage and it's dead apparently. I am sorely missing this particular feature. I collect several shows during the main airing season to watch in the holidays and summer times when I am at work less. I'd like an easy way to keep track of what I have to go find as it airs without needing to comb several folders on my drive to verify I've got the newest episode. Is this a possible feature I've missed or could it be added? Failing that, any ideas on how to make the current system work for my needs would be more welcome.

You could use the watchlist for what you want, just mark all the shows/episodes you already have as watched and what remains is what you need to collect.

jt4703 wrote 9 years ago: 1

But then I still need a list to keep track of watching? Is there a way to unwatch a whole season? Also concerned I'll wake up senile and see it marked off and dump it before it's watched since it won't be in a different section.

Agree to, would be perfect !

Not sure how that would benefit me? I can't watch stuff when I'm at work, I have to work. My home connection isn't fast enough to support streaming of large files anyway. I download everything for offline viewing. The stuff I am watching as it airs is easier to manage with one mark but the stuff I save for the summertime needs the dual system. Thanks for trying though

It would benefit you because plex automatically marks shows watched as you watch them, it's a separate server/app combo. Maybe I didn't understand your situation.

I put all of my shows on a flash drive and view them on an old non-networked computer using VLC and I have no interest in changing my viewing process. I am much more open to changing my marking process if there is a way to do both (acquired then watched) here but I don't see a way to do it easily. I thought making a bank tag and putting those shows in it, but then after I've marked them watched the first time, which really means downloaded, then unmarking them all at once doesn't appear to be possible and as I plan on holding over 100 episodes, I have no interest in clicking the little eye that many times.

Is the purpose just so that you know where you left off watching?

jt4703 wrote 9 years ago: 1

Yes I need that for when I fall behind or when I am storing for longer. I usually grab things every day but only watch tv a couple times a week due to my schedule and since it takes so long to dl things anyway I want to be sure I get them right away and store for when I can watch so it's ready when I'm ready. Having the two marks makes this possible since I can say yes I grabbed that and then go back and see what I have to watch

Is it possible to add shows to my watch list twice with different tags for each add?

I agree with adding an acquired check mark as well!
This has been one of the main reasons I have found it so hard to move away from using myepisodes for a long time.
If this option was here I'd switch right now but I'll be waiting for a little while to see if tvrage comes back first.

Rob if you don't want the feature you don't have to use it, no need to put down other peoples suggestions because it doesn't suit you.
What would be nice in fact is to have a setting in the user preferences to enable the acquired check mark or not.

I would also love to see an acquired check mark... its the thing i miss most from myepisodes.

I'm sure the devs must be sick of hearing about how myepisodes does things but I think they have a really good opportunity to grab alot of extra users while tvrage is down, I only discovered this site because i was looking for info about the tvrage outage, i'm sure i'm not the only one. At the moment i am still on the fence as far as moving across goes, I am keeping both sites as up to date as I can for now.

Myepisodes is dead in the water without tvrage and there has been no development for a long time (i was already worried about it disappearing, now even more so), whereas tvmaze is clearly being actively developed and has a much nicer interface, so I would really like to switch over fully. However there are several features that myepisodes has that tvmaze doesn't, like the acquired check box, the ability to ignore shows that you are no longer watching, and more customisation options like changing your timezone and the numbering format of episodes. If tvmaze can implement atleast the first 2 of these i will be able to leave myepisodes and tvrage behind, regardless of whether tvrage comes back or not.

Not sure when you think I put down the idea, I merely tried to understand the situation and offer an alternate solution.

Yes you can add multiple tags to one show and they show up separate in the watchlist, so perhaps one for Acquired and another for Watched.

I don't think we are saying the same things. For example, I am following NCIS and it is one of the shows I will hold onto and watch next summer. I have gotten the first 2 episodes of the current season already and ticked the watched option (which means downloaded for me), however when I attached the bank tag to it and viewed only bank episodes it doesn't show NCIS and says I am caught up.

porshipman wrote 9 years ago: 1

Hmm, tagging works for whole shows it appears. Not for separate episodes. Guess you'll have to wait and see what happens.

Haha, definitely not sick of it, we love to hear about suggestions. Right now it's just a bit frustrating since there are so many of them that it's become impossible to fully consider every one of them, let alone implement them. We'll catch up in time. :)

Totaly agree with that !!

Another MyEpisodes refugee here, looking for a viable alternative since that site is mostly abandoned. Like jt4703 I quite often acquire shows without watching immediately so an "Acquired" column along with the Watched would be fantastic.
