AKAs for season names allowed?

hecks wrote 8 years ago: 1

Some series - especially anime - may have slightly different names for each season. For instance, the second season of K is widely known (in English) as K: Return of Kings. TheTVDB currently lists that as an alias (which is searchable) along with Project K: http://www.thetvdb.com/api/GetSeries.php?seriesnam...

Another example is the Monogatari series, each season of which has a different name: Bakemonogatari, Owarimonogatari, etc. listed as series aliases:

Should the same be done here, or is that not allowed?

Yes, that is allowed and is a nice idea, you can enter a season name for example (this is the show Castle) here:

Yeah, the formal way to do this would be to set a name on the season level like Juan described.

Though currently it's not possible to search for a show using any of its season names, which I assume is the reason you're asking.

Not entirely sure here. I'm not an anime expert, how often does this happen? And if it does, how likely is it that people refer to an episode using the season-specific name instead of the generic show name?

Anime is a strange and peculiar world with many rules of its own. Most anime sites like myanimelist will include all the different season names, and TheTVDB stores them as series aliases. Certainly each season of the Monogatari series is referred to differently wherever it counts, it seems. So searching for Bakemonogatari 01 will get you further than searching for Monogatari 1x01.

I see that there may be potential differences here with the policy on foreign names, as there's no way to provide AKAs for different countries for season names like with series names. But unless these are searchable, as you say, season names don't have much use.

(It strikes me that maybe there's a larger discussion to be had here with anime specialists on the site whose brains are less likely than mine to melt when faced with anime oddnesses)
