Alternative episode numbering

Maybe you heard the news, but tvdb is really making effort to alienate a large part of their userbase lately, by demanding paid access to their api.

I'm the developer op the free open source project pyMedusa. And for a while now we have added tvmaze as an option to add tv shows.

We see that more and more users are switching from tvdb to tvmaze. And we suspect for the coming year this will increase.

We'd like to request for one feature, that will make the transition seamless.

We'd like to request the possibility of adding alternative episode lists. For two reasons.

1. We see that some shows like casa de papel, air on a broadcast network. But after are released on a streaming service provider. But with a different season/episode setup. And sometimes re-editted.

2. Our users depend on a mapping of tvmaze -> scene.

Using alternative episode lists would fix both. A user could choose an episode list.

Currently we use the service thexem.de, to map from tvdb to scene. But we think it would be better if this was implemented in the source.

Great timing, I've actually been looking into this recently.

In my proposed architecture, #1 would be covered: you could create an alternate list of the type "web/streaming premiere" with Netflix' episode numbering and release dates.

I'm not sure what to do with #2 though. I've checked out the thexem service in the past, but if I understand it correctly, the "scene numbering" is completely arbitrary and not based on any policy/standards. How could we begin to support that?

There's already a pending feature for this:

Support for premiere airdates in different countries

We already have alternate episode lists, but due to the current structure, it's limited to DVD Release (that will change when the above pending feature is implemented). It does however already support re-ordered & split/merged episodes.

Regarding #2, it's unlikely that we'd explicitly allow a separate alternate episode list purely for the scene (assuming for a given series the numbering differs from the release).

If it simply follows another official premiere than we have listed as the main, that's fine.

Tnx for the quick -redundant- response! Great to hear that this is already WIP!

As for the scene request. I understand that's a difficult one because of a lack of standard. I'll have to think on this. If I can define a proper feature request here. It would be user contributed and used mostly for anime shows.
